“Texas Judges Rarely Face Accountability — Here’s the Proof” SCJC

Look Familiar - State Bar Dismissal rate 99.6%

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct (SCJC) oversees complaints against judges in Texas. But the numbers tell a troubling story:

• 1,135 cases filed in FY 2024

• 1,215 cases disposed — yet only 49 disciplinary actions

• 1,180 dismissals (with 726 labeled “after dismissal review”)

• Only 8 public reprimands and 10 public admonitions statewide

• Just 3 judges were suspended

• Formal proceedings? Only 30 out of more than a thousand complaints.

That’s an alarming dismissal rate, almost identical to how the State Bar of Texas shields attorneys. Texans are filing complaints in huge numbers — but judges face almost no real consequences.

If the watchdog never bites, is it really protecting the public — or protecting the bench?

(Data: SCJC Fiscal Year 2024 Report)

Dismissal rate: ~97%

That means only about 3% of cases lead to any disciplinary action or further proceedings.

Disclaimer:

This information comes directly from the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct’s own FY 2024 data. It is presented for public awareness and accountability purposes only. This post does not accuse any individual judge of misconduct — it highlights systemic patterns showing that nearly 97% of complaints are dismissed without formal discipline.
